No versioning in Web 2.0

When I saw Angelsoft 3.0 came out, the thing about it that struck me most was that they’re using versions. It might be because Angelsoft started out with client software, but it was very refreshing to see nonetheless. If Google made Angelsoft, they’d say it just completed a 4 year beta.

We all acknowledge Web 2.0. Are we disingenuous for not versioning our own releases? Can one essential trait of Web 2.0 (emphasis on the two dot o) really be not using versions?

Or perhaps Web 1.0 was the alpha, Web 2.0 is the beta, and we can look forward to the real Web beginning soon.
